the thing that gets me about the way the dragon age fandom likes to blame its hatred of sera on her admittedly at times pretty ~problematic~ writing is that they have in the past displayed the exact opposite reaction to bad writing when it comes to male characters (cough anders cough).

when male characters are written shoddily fandom lovingly fills in the blanks and/or works around and explains ooc moments in meta and fanwork. people will literally write you entire essays at the drop of a hat about why the writer is to blame for this or that and it’s always made sure to emphasize that this shouldn’t negatively reflect on the character itself.

yet when sera got the shit end of the writing stick in some regards people immediately used this as an excuse to dismiss her entire character and fire unbelievably awful vitriol in the direction of her and everyone who dares to like her.

your male favs will get away with literally everything but a lesbian has to do backwards cartwheels to even get so much as a neutral stance from people and it’s bullshit. maybe reconsider why you hold non-het female characters up to impossible standards when you leap to defend white dudes at every opportunity, honestly.
